The purpose of a Piercing Insertion taper is to help increase the size of a piercing  from a smaller gauge to a larger gauge. ie a 6g up to a 4g.

There are two styles of tapers which we have developed and now currently sell.

Arrow Style - Jewelry sits flush to the taper and is followed through after the taper.

Advantages of Arrow Style
Piercing is stretched to exactly the size intended. No overstretching.

Disadvantages of Arrow Style
A lot harder to follow jewelry behind the taper. Increase chance of losing the connection inside the piercing.

Calor Style  - Jewelry actually sits inside the taper and is followed through with the taper.
Advantages of Calor Style
No Chance of losing the jewelry during the taper
Quicker and easier to taper with

Disadvantages of Calor Style
Its a little bit thicker then the actual gauge your tapering to.

From personal experience with both of these tapers. I prefer the calor taper. I stretched my lobes from 10g up to 7/16″ (current) and during my stretches i had a very hard time with the arrow style. On more then one occasion i would lose connection with the taper as i was pushing the taper through and following with the jewelry.
